As ExxonMobil’s Director of Greenhouse Gas and Climate, Mike Cousins leads the corporation’s strategy for efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and address climate change. This includes ExxonMobil’s ambition to reach net-zero Scope 1 & 2 greenhouse gas emissions in its operated assets by 2050. He also oversees ExxonMobil’s climate policy and advocacy efforts.

Prior to his current role, Mr Cousins was Senior Vice President for Exploration and New Ventures for ExxonMobil’s Upstream Business Development Company, where he set the vision and direction of ExxonMobil’s global exploration activity. He has also been President of ExxonMobil Upstream Ventures, Executive Assistant to the Chairman of Exxon Mobil Corporation and Vice President, Asia-Pacific/Middle East, ExxonMobil Exploration Company.

Mr Cousins began his career over 40 years ago in 1982 as a field seismologist in the deserts of central Australia before joining ExxonMobil in Australia in 1984. He then held a series of technical and managerial positions in ExxonMobil’s Exploration, Development and Production Companies and spent two years in Stavanger as the Norway Exploration Manager.

He is a native of Australia and graduated in 1982 from the University of New South Wales, Sydney, with a BSc in physical oceanography.

Mr Cousins is also proud to be on the board of the Houston Museum of Natural Science.
