Claudio Descalzi, Eni’s Chief Executive Officer since May 2014, has spent his whole career at Eni, joining the company in 1981 as an oil and gas field Petroleum Engineer. In 1990, Mr Descalzi was appointed Head of reservoir and operating activities for Italy, then Managing Director of an Eni subsidiary in Congo, and Vice Chairman and Managing Director of an Eni subsidiary in Nigeria. Mr Descalzi has held the position of Executive Vice President for Africa, the Middle East, China and Italy.
In 2005, Mr Descalzi was appointed Deputy Chief Operating Officer of the Eni Exploration & Production Division, where he was also Chief Operating Officer from 2008 to 2014.
In 2012, Mr Descalzi was the first European in the oil and gas field to receive the Charles F. Rand Memorial Gold Medal award from the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the American Institute of Mining Engineers.
Mr Descalzi is a visiting Fellow of the University of Oxford, and, since December 2015, a member of the Global Board of Advisers of the Council on Foreign Relations.
Mr Descalzi is a member of the General Council and Advisory Board of Confindustria, a member of the National Petroleum Council and Director of Fondazione Teatro alla Scala.
