IAN NATHAN is a Director of Energy Intelligence Research. Key focus areas of Energy Intelligence Research include the energy transition, corporate strategy and competitor intelligence, oil and gas/LNG markets, and aboveground risk.
Mr Nathan leads Gas and LNG Research, focusing on demand drivers, supply risk, contracting and pricing trends, government priorities, corporate gas value-chain strategy and new market development. His recent presentations at LNG2019, Gastech (2021 and 2022) and World Gas Conference 2022 have focused on long-term policy and LNG demand scenarios, corporate gas and LNG strategy ambiguity, LNG project risk frameworks and the future of low-carbon LNG.
Mr Nathan has spent his career analyzing energy matters and advising oil companies, institutional investors and other stakeholders on oil and gas markets, opportunities and risks. He contributes to integrated coverage across other Research areas, and bespoke Advisory engagements on gas and LNG market analysis, country risk and corporate strategy. He has contributed to several Energy Intelligence publications, including Petroleum Intelligence Weekly, World Gas Intelligence and Energy Intelligence Premium. Publication leadership roles include the Energy Intelligence Top 100: Global NOC and IOC Rankings, of which he was Editor for four editions.
Prior to joining Energy Intelligence, Mr Nathan served as Associate Director, Energy and Geopolitical Research at Burnham Securities, and Assistant Vice President, Energy and Geopolitical Research at Hoenig & Co., focusing on oil markets, along with the Middle East and former Soviet Union regions.
Mr Nathan has an MA in international political economy and development from Fordham University, following a BA in political science from George Washington University.
