Charles Hendry was Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change in David Cameron’s Coalition Government from May 2010 until September 2012. He was previously the Conservative Party’s spokesman on energy issues, from 2005-10, holding the portfolio for longer than any other spokesman. He was Conservative Member of Parliament for Wealden from 2001-15 and High Peak from 1992-97.

On leaving ministerial office, Prime Minister David Cameron appointed Mr Hendry as his Trade Envoy to Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, a role he filled until leaving Parliament in 2015. Mr Hendry was awarded the CBE in Her Majesty the Queen’s 2019 Birthday Honors for his work in supporting British Trade in Central Asia.

Prime Minister David Cameron also appointed him as an Honorary Professor at the University of Edinburgh Business School when he left ministerial office. He is President of the British Institute of Energy Economics and Vice President of The Energy Institute. He works extensively across the international energy sector, primarily focusing on the transition to net zero and decarbonization strategies.

Mr Hendry was educated at the University of Edinburgh, where he received an honors degree in business studies.
