He is currently the Managing Director – International Programs at Energy Opportunity Lab, Center on Global Energy Policy – Columbia University. Mr Kamau previously served as Principal Secretary for Petroleum and Mining in Kenya's Ministry of Petroleum and Mining, where he spearheaded transformative initiatives.

Notably, he drove the adoption of clean cooking fuel, reducing reliance on traditional sources. Mr Kamau championed eco-friendly transportation methods, revitalizing infrastructure like the Nairobi-Nanyuki rail line.
