2023 ENERGY ECONOMIST OF THE YEAR
Energy Intelligence is pleased to announce that William D. Nordhaus, Sterling Professor of Economics & Professor in the School of the Environment – Yale University, has been named as Energy Intelligence’s Energy Economist of the Year for 2023.
Professor William Nordhaus is one of the most influential experts in the macroeconomic modelling of climate change, for which he was awarded a Nobel Prize in 2018. As a professor of economics at Yale University since 1973, Nordhaus has been at the forefront of developing the tools that integrate the science, economics and policies necessary to slow warming. His work helped formulate estimates for carbon dioxide emissions costs, which now are used to price carbon in dozens of countries around the world. He has argued that the risk to the global economy from climate change needs to be balanced against the economic costs of action.
