Michael Collins is a Director of Energy Intelligence Research. Key focus areas of Energy Intelligence Research include the energy transition, corporate strategy and competitor intelligence, oil and gas/LNG markets, and aboveground risk.
Mr Collins leads Energy Transition Research, which helps guide the energy industry through the low-carbon transition. He is responsible for identifying and analyzing key trends that illustrate how the energy transition is unfolding, with a focus on key technologies, costs, market developments, policy drivers and geopolitics. Mr Collins contributes to integrated coverage across other Research areas, as well as bespoke Advisory engagements.
Prior to joining Energy Intelligence in September 2024, Mr Collins worked for the UK Government for more than a decade. He commenced his career at the Department of Energy and Climate Change, working on electricity market reform and nuclear. He subsequently led teams at the Home Office, Cabinet Office and Foreign Office, before returning to the Cabinet Office as Deputy Head of Strategic Advantage and specializing in the security and geopolitical aspects of the energy transition. Mr Collins has written for and advised prime ministers and other senior members of the UK Cabinet.
Mr Collins holds an MA (Cantab) in History and MPhil in Musicology from the University of Cambridge.
