Matthew (“Matt”) J. O’Connor is a Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer of International Energy. Prior to this role, Mattt was Head of the Carlyle Power Partners Funds, where he led all aspects of the Funds’ investment and portfolio management activities. He previously served as the Chairman of the Board of Cogentrix Energy, which was sold in 2025. Matt joined Carlyle in 2013 and is based in New York.

Prior to joining Carlyle, Mr. O’Connor was a Senior Executive at General Electric where he spent more than 14 years. His recent experience with GE Capital included more than six years as a Managing Director with GE Energy Financial Services, the company’s principal investing business in the Energy sector. He was a member of the Investment Committee and led the firm’s Power M&A activity in addition to firm-wide responsibility for its global lending operations, capital markets and investment strategy.

Mr. O’Connor received his MBA from Columbia Business School and his BBA in Finance from University of Notre Dame.
