Justice Appiah Nuamah, AMEI, is a Ghanaian engineer whose work sits at the intersection of conventional energy systems, carbon management and Africa’s energy transition. He holds a petroleum engineering degree from the University of Mines and Technology (UMaT) and has worked with the Ghana National Gas Company. He has also been involved in energy research at Washington University in St. Louis.

His interests span gas flaring reduction, combustion, carbon dioxide removal and practical pathways for advancing energy security and climate goals across Africa. As a COP30 Simulation Fellow, he authored a technical policy proposal presenting one of the first integrated frameworks for deploying bioenergy with carbon capture and storage in Ghana.

Mr Nuamah has received several honours, including leading UMaT to victory in the 2021 Ghana Gas Challenge, the 2024 McCall MacBain Regional Award for Sub-Saharan Africa, and selection as one of the 180 finalists from more than 8,000 applicants worldwide for the 2026 Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program at Stanford University.

In Autumn 2026, Mr Nuamah will join the University of Oxford’s Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment as an AfOx Mastercard Foundation Scholar.
