ENERGY LEADER FOR TOMORROW 2026
Firdaus Kamal is a reservoir engineer with experience in subsurface development, carbon management, and digital technologies for the energy industry. He currently works at SLB, where he provides reservoir engineering consultancy and supports carbon storage projects, contributing to the development of lower-carbon energy solutions.
Alongside his professional work, Mr Kamal is actively involved in leadership and young professional initiatives within the energy sector. He founded the SPE KL Student Council, the Energy Career Aspiration Networking Series, and the SPE KL Energy Run. He also served as President of the SPE Imperial College London Student Chapter and SPE Kuala Lumpur University Liaison for Malaysia, where he supports engagement between industry and eight student chapters across the country.
Mr Kamal received the 2023 SPE Kuala Lumpur Outstanding Young Professional Award and the 2024 SPE Northern Asia Pacific Regional Young Professional Member Outstanding Service Award. He is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng) and a certified Professional Technologist (P.Tech) and is actively involved in digital solutions innovation and Carbon Capture and Storage initiatives in Malaysia.
Mr Kamal holds a BSc in Petroleum Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and an MSc in Geo-Energy with Machine Learning and Data Science from Imperial College London.
