2026 ENERGY EXECUTIVE OF THE YEAR

Energy Intelligence is pleased to announce that Mike Wirth, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Chevron Corporation, has been selected as the recipient of the Energy Executive of the Year for 2026. The award recognizes his outstanding leadership, strategic vision and transformative impact on the global energy industry.

Under Wirth’s leadership, Chevron has strengthened its position as one of the world’s leading oil and gas producers while maintaining one of the strongest balance sheets among its peers. His disciplined approach to capital allocation and long-term strategy has reinforced Chevron’s ability to deliver resilient performance and sustained shareholder value in a rapidly evolving energy landscape.

Wirth has consistently demonstrated a firm conviction that global demand for affordable, reliable energy will remain strong for decades to come. Guided by that vision, he has advanced a strategy focused on investing in high-quality assets, expanding Chevron’s production portfolio and delivering peer-leading dividend growth throughout his tenure.

A defining achievement of Wirth’s leadership has been Chevron’s transformational acquisition strategy. The company’s landmark acquisition of Hess in July 2025 expanded Chevron into the world-class Guyana deepwater basin, helping propel company-wide production to a record of nearly 4.1 million barrels of oil equivalent per day, with further growth expected in the years ahead.

Wirth also demonstrated strategic foresight through Chevron’s 2020 acquisition of Noble Energy, leveraging Chevron’s strong market position to acquire the company at a compelling value during a period of market disruption. The transaction established Chevron’s presence in the Eastern Mediterranean, adding a significant new natural gas province to its portfolio, while also securing a material position in the DJ Basin shale play in the US.

Building on that momentum, Chevron completed the 2023 acquisition of PDC Energy, further strengthening its position in the DJ Basin and expanding its foundation of stable, short-cycle production assets.

A chemical engineer who began his career at Chevron in 1982, Wirth has repeatedly drawn on his extensive experience leading key elements of its refining, chemicals, midstream, supply and logistics units. His 10-year stint through 2016 as Chevron’s Executive Vice President of Downstream and Chemicals oversaw substantial restructuring and global rationalization, with its retail footprint nearly halved and multiple refineries offloaded to cut costs and bridge a persistent returns gap with its peers. Wirth has carried the torch further as CEO, including sales agreed this year in Asia-Pacific.

Chevron now boasts a substantially smaller, US-concentrated downstream, but select large-scale chemical investments in Qatar and the US remain part of its story.

Chevron’s continued leadership in the Permian Basin and Kazakhstan have also been central to Wirth’s success. Today, Chevron is the second-largest producer in the US Permian, generating more than 1 million boe/d from a legacy position built over more than a century. Under Wirth’s direction, the company plans to sustain that level of production for at least the next decade. Chevron’s giant expansion of the foundational Tengiz oil field in Kazakhstan is meanwhile firing on all cylinders, with recent debottlenecking lifting its processing capacity north of 1 million b/d.

In Venezuela, Wirth has uniquely positioned Chevron to play a central role in developing one of the world’s largest resources bases. While most foreign investors exited in response to years of heavy sanctions, Wirth opted to retain Chevron’s position. Today, following the political changes in January, Chevron has increased production by 15% to 280,000 b/d since the beginning of the year and is now targeting around 600,000 b/d by 2031.

“Mike Wirth’s leadership has exemplified strategic discipline, operational excellence and long-term vision,” said Raja Sidawi, Chairman and CEO of Energy Intelligence. “His ability to execute transformational growth while maintaining financial strength and positioning Chevron for long-term success makes him a highly deserving recipient of the Executive of the Year 2026 award.”

Wirth is the 30th Energy Executive of the Year and will accept the award at the annual Energy Intelligence Forum in London.
