Energy Economist of the Year – Energy Intelligence Forum 2023

The Dr. Herman Franssen Energy Economist of the Year Award is given annually to a top energy economist who embodies the characteristics that Dr. Franssen stood for: intellectual curiosity, a global perspective and a dedication to the field of energy.

The award is designed to shine a light on the intellectual work being done by economists to understand the profound changes happening in the world of energy and economics. A short-list is then ranked by a selection committee that includes Energy Intelligence staff, as well as members of academia, the private sector and government.

Judging of the 2023 Energy Economist of the Year Award is currently in progress, with the winner to be announced shortly.

2022 Winner

Professor Lord Nicholas Stern, IG Patel Professor of Economics & Government; Chair of the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change & the Environment – LSE, was awarded the 2022 Energy Intelligence’s Energy Economist of the Year.

The award recognizes Lord Stern’s pivotal role in revolutionizing the way economists think about the impacts of climate and catalyzed the financial community to begin to take an active role in the energy transition, stemming from his seminal report – the Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change released in 2006 for the UK government.
