ENERGY LEADER FOR TOMORROW 2021

Waithera Gakio is an energy enthusiast who is passionate about bridging the gender energy poverty gap; specifically, in the neglected rural regions of Africa.

She recently graduated from the Middle East Technical University with a B.Sc. Hons. in Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering (3rd in her class). Additionally, she completed an online training course offered by Micro-Grid Academy for Decentralizing Renewables against COVID.

Driven by her impassioned focus on energy solutions, her roles as a Project Coordinator at TSAVO Oilfield Services Ltd. and as an Engineering Intern at the Geothermal Power Plants at KenGen PLC have yielded technical, leadership, and research skills in the geothermal, oil and gas sectors. Moreover, she volunteers at Young Scientists Kenya and has impacted several young minds interested in science, engineering, and technology.
