ENERGY LEADER FOR TOMORROW 2024

James Burtonshaw is a reservoir engineer with particular expertise in the storage of gaseous hydrogen into depleted hydrocarbon fields. He holds a first-class BSc in Geophysics, a distinction MSc in Petroleum Engineering and a PhD from Imperial College London, where he is a Janet Watson (President of the Geological Society) Scholar.

Mr Burtonshaw was awarded the John S. Archer PhD Research Excellence and the Energy Institute Best MSc Thesis awards at Imperial College. His work aims to assess potential geomechanical (i.e., seismicity, caprock integrity, subsidence) consequences resultant from the injection/storage/withdrawal of hydrogen.
